Ten years ago today The Vampire Diaries season 3 episode 11 Our Town premiered, and Klaroline was born.

So after their fight Jack either does something stupid or something to gain Vernon’s trust.
Then he asks about the status of Peggysous and gets really happy and friendly after hearing that Daniel plans to marry someone else. Perfection!
Meanwhile, I wonder how much of Peggy’s punching spree is worry about Wilkes and how much is related to Jack.

This scene gives me a number of Cartson thoughts and feelings.
Let’s just take a moment to enjoy the flirting. Jack is being a bit of a tease from the start. Then Peggy picks up that teasing tone when she accuses him of being up to something. Peggy frequently has a smile tugging at her mouth as she is speaking. Jack smiles quite visibly when Peggy shows concern for him and teases him about his “silver tongue”. When Vernon calls them on the flirting, nobody even tries to protest.
Secondly, I love the subtle callback to Jarvis and Ana. “I may not always be truthful with Ana, but I am always honest.” Jack doesn’t try to pretend to Peggy that he doesn’t have a secret plan. He practically admits that he does. His words do hint that he hasn’t sold out to Whitney or Vernon though. Like Jarvis, he’s trying to be honest even when he isn’t giving her the full story. It’s also interesting to note that his position of wanting to kill the bad guys in this case is an echo of Jarvis’s earlier stance.
Finally, I’m digging the way their outfits are once again coordinated with that splash of red right at the center over their hearts.
One of the things that really has my brain ticking about episode 8 is the scene between Jack and his old university buddy in London. I’m very curious which University they attended for one thing. The big thing that really caught my attention was the line, “I know why you’re really here. You want another shot at my record of taking down Piccadilly Commandos in an evening.“
That one kinda floors me. I looked up the term while working on a fanfic idea, and for those who don’t already know… Piccadilly Commandos were famously bold London prostitutes during World War II. Now, the idea of a young drunken Jack picking fights and going off with prostitutes doesn’t surprise me in the least. It does, however, make me wonder when Jack’s previous attempt at the record was, especially as it has just raised the possibility that Jack spent some time serving in Europe during WWII.
